How to join a server
- Start CS 1.6 and open the console with the ~ key. If nothing happens, turn the console on under Options › Keyboard › Advanced.
- Type
connectfollowed by the server address, for exampleconnect 51.38.60.53:27015, and press Enter. - Add it to Favorites in the server browser once you like a server, so you can rejoin it with one click.
No game yet? Download Counter-Strike 1.6 first; it joins both protocol 47 and 48 servers.

Questions & answers
Why does a server say "Steam validation rejected"?
Some servers accept only players logged in to Steam. Non-Steam clients, including this one, cannot join those; pick another server from the list.
The server is full. Can I wait for a slot?
Type retry in the console every few seconds; it reconnects to the last server you tried. Servers with a reserved-slot plugin keep the last slots for their VIP players.
What do PUB, ZM, DM and the other mods mean?
PUB is a classic public server (bomb and hostage maps, normal rules). ZM is a zombie mod, JB is jailbreak, DM is deathmatch with instant respawn, and DD2 means de_dust2 only.
My ping is high. What can I do?
Pick a server in or near your own country: the flag column shows where each one is hosted. Then set rate 25000, cl_updaterate 101 and cl_cmdrate 101 in the console.
